Ever heard of a triple scented candle??

Have you heard of a triple scented candle or seen it advertised in almost every single candle sales add?

Do you know what it means?

Here at Serenity Skin Au we aim to give you as much information as possible, and bust some myths along the way.

A 'Triple scented' candle does not mean that the candle scent is 3 times stronger than other candles, or that the the person making the candle has somehow managed to scent the wax 3 times.

Triple scented refers to the depth of the aromatic qualities of the fragrance within the candle. This means that when the candle burns and the wax melts it releases different fragrance notes at different times within the burning cycle.

To determine this, you may see fragrance descriptions which show information including Top, Middle and Base notes. This refers to the aromatic complexity of the candles fragrance not the strength of the fragrance.

Heres the science behind fragrance strength!!!

Waxes used for making candles have a maximum tolerance for how much fragrance they can hold. Whether this be 6%, 8% or 10%. The fragrance itself can also dictate the percentage in which the wax can tolerate. Different fragrances interact with waxes differently. Each candle maker has their own personal preference in regards to fragrance percentages.

If you triple the 10% maximum fragrance loading for lets say my personal favourite soy wax, that means you are using a 30% fragrance load. For example you would be adding 30g of fragrance of 100g soy wax. This is not possible. It would mean the candle would be highly flammable, most likely not set and be very dangerous to have and attempt to use.

I hope this clears up the confusion around what a triple scented candle is!!!
