Collection: Dehydration

Dehydrated skin often appears as itchy, dull and flaky, with an uneven skin tone and fine lines. These fine lines could even be a little more obvious.

Dehydrated skin is not the same as dry skin. Dehydrated skin refers to the skin as having a lack of water content due to a number of contributing factors.

Dehydrated skin can be caused by inadequate water intake and other factors including caffeine consumption which has a diuretic effect on the body, diet, weather and general health and well being.

And yes you can have oily dehydrated skin!!

How to correct it??

Drink plenty of water and ensure you maintain an adequate water intake on a regular basis, reduce caffeine intake, check your diet, and don't forget to replace what fluids you lose in your workout.

As for skin care products, those that contain humectants and have occlusive properties are beneficial. Humectants have the ability to attract moisture to the skin from the air and may assist in keeping your skin barrier well hydrated. Occlusive products are those moisturising ingredients which aim to help form a protective barrier on the skins surface and prevent water loss via evaporation from the skins surface.

Our favourite ingredients for dehydrated skin are

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic Acid occurs naturally in the body and decreases with age. In the skin it is found in the epidermis and helps keep the skin hydrated due to its high water retention ability. As we mature our production rate decreases and this can be seen with early signs of aging. Replacing this may help replenish the skins moisture.

Jojoba oil

An oil which closely resembles the sebum within the skin, it is rich in Vitamin E and B, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. This oil has occlusive properties.

Aloe vera

Packed full of vitamin B complex, folic acid, vitamin C and Carotene Aloe Vera has long been used soothe, cool and moisturise the skin. Research suggests it also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Sea Buckthorn extract

Used as an antioxidant this oil has a high percentage of Linoleic, Linolenic and Oleic fatty acids, which studies show play an important role in maintaining the skins natural barrier function.

Vitamin B3 and B group vitamins are essential for healthy cellular metabolism. It is thought to be beneficial in preventing moisture loss from the skin and may even assist in evening out skin tone.

A humectant or water binding ingredient. It works by binding water from the external environment and drawing it to the skins surface aiding in hydration.

Marine Collagen

Our Marine Collagen is extracted from the natural seaweed variety Porphyra tenera making it suitable for vegans. It is believed to have properties that stimulate the synthesis of collagen which is critical for healthy and young looking skin.
