Lye or Sodium Hydroxide is used in all our soaps to facilitate the saponification process (turning oils into soap) and when made correctly, there is no Lye present in cured soaps. Our soaps are made to contain 5 to 10% superfat dependant on the recipe. This means there is 5 to 10% or oils remaining in the cured soap that has been unchanged by the saponification process. This superfat percentage adds extra moisturising and nourishing properties to our soap bars.
